The Fear

Thu Mar 20, 2008, 6:47 PM
  • Mood: Eager
  • Listening to: Insomniac Full Moon Show
  • Watching: Trailer Park Boys
  • Playing: Audiosurf
  • Eating: Curry (jalfreizi)
  • Drinking: Robinsons
Today's journal title is provided by both Ian Brown - F.E.A.R. and Travis - The Fear (well its two songs that relate to the quiz thingy)

I'm now right in a good working mood (though its coming up 2:30 am so maybe i'll sleep now), i'm getting a good few hours work done everyday and feeling optimistic... though not so much about my placement, nothing so far, but a very nice reply from glassworks which was full of good advice to improve my work, so thankyou very much for that.

There are a few places locally to my home down south so I might try them, but I'm not sure if they're strictly animation, more production in 3D models it seems.

I've got a lot to be doing, for my modules, so I'll be busy over the next few weeks, planning to finnish a module a week, currently nearly finnished with my 2D character animation which is probably gonna be posted up here.

now onto this quiz which was stoelen from :iconhexit: who stole it from :icontajniwolf:

Patch me

Fri Mar 7, 2008, 3:38 PM
  • Mood: Zest
  • Listening to: Yoko Kanno/Tsuneo Imahori
  • Watching: Naruto Shippuuden
  • Playing: Audiosurf/Mass Effect
  • Eating: Burgers
  • Drinking: Robinsons
Today's journal title is provided by Yoko Kanno - Patch me (from the Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Be Human)

I've got into a working stride now, though still need to spend more time in the labs, usually spending a minimum of four hours in the labs each day, but now more of my lectures and tutorials are starting to come to an end its easier to spend more time working. My first hand in is the 2nd of May so time really is ticking away.

I've compiled my show reel today, and I'll be sending that along with my CV to various companies in London with the hope that I can get a years work placement. I've got it hosted up on youtube as well [link]

My computer has been fixed after a rather nasty spyware overload/virus/corruption, and I can now work on my 2D modules at home which greatly increases the amount of time I can work on my projects, now all thats left to do is work my ass off.

I've recently purchased audiosurf off steam, and it's a great game, simple, fun, trippy. It's an action puzzle game that creates the 'tracks' based on whatever MP3 you give it, meaning its got as many levels as you do songs, plus difficulty settings.

And on a similar audio note, I've been listening to two fairly common names in anime soundtrack, one being Tsueno Imahori, who has a good talent for weird and disjointed background music as well as bluesy style and some really nice relaxed pieces (two main things he's worked on are Trigun and Gungrave). The other is Yoko Kanno who has a great range of styles in his repertoire, from jazz to industrial rock, to choral, atmospheric, modern, classical, oriental, and has worked on all the Ghost in the Shell Movies and Series as well as Cowboy Bebop. Both great composers.

Peace out :peace:

You can win if you Dare!

Thu Feb 14, 2008, 4:40 PM
  • Mood: Eager
  • Listening to: Dream Theatre
  • Watching: Naruto Shippuuden
  • Playing: Heavenly Sword(s)
  • Eating: Candy!
  • Drinking: Juice of various varieties
Today's journal title is provided by Stan Bush - Dare (from the original transformers movie, a movie of amazing awesomeness)

Last week was animex at Teesside university, and I've got to say it was amazingly helpful, especially compared to last year when i couldn't quite appreciate it.

I've got ideas and input from it for my showreel (as it really needs work) and I've been given great motivation after seeing a couple of showreels from the students at Gobelins in France who are pretty much pixar quality producers of animation [link]

I also attended the Ed Hooks 'acting for animators' workshop and it was amazing, with respect to Ed Hooks I don't want to explain what he covered, but he really revealed amazing ideas about how good animation and acting work and how a story should play out. He's an amazing guy and he's really passionate about what he does, he's worked with a lot of big names including Disney, Dreamworks, Valve, BioWare, Midway to name a few. He even helped develop a story which was nominated for an oscar.

Sure being inspired and motivated is all well and good, but now comes the time to do the work, so i've been spending a lot more time than usual outside of classes in university to get it done, so my 'Arthur' [link] character is now almost modelled to be rigged and weighted, then I can get animating him.

I've also just read my mark for the 2D animation production line test and its only 26 out of a possible 50, its well into a pass, but I want a better mark overall, so I'm gonna put a lot of time in effort getting the final thing looking good.

Hopefully with vista being not crap and my computer working nice I can get either XSI or Maya to work on my PC and get onto making stuff for my show reel and get a placement year, and then go on to get my degree and get a job that I love.

Peace out :peace:

There's Beauty in the Breakdown

  • Watching: Naruto Shippuuden
  • Playing: Mass Effect
  • Eating: Bacon Sandwhich
  • Drinking: Grapefruit Juice
Today's journal title is provided by 'Let Go' by Frou Frou

I've been busy this week with my 2D animation production module, since the line test and supporting work was in Friday. I'm pretty happy with it, though as always there is something I could have done better or improved. I'm gonna try and get it up on you tube or maybe go for a movie account with DA, I'm intending to use it to send to companies, though at the moment it is a bit slap-dash.

Though I've been having problems with my PC
1 - vista
2- trojans

For one thing vista has a nasty habit of not working the way a company with billions built it should and eating my RAM like a tasty snack.

And it could be worse, but the trojan inhabiting my PC is causing issues with slowdown, and 'zlob' as I believe it is called, is not playing fair and (unless its just my PC) it turned very suddenly to being veeeeery slow at start-up, also nothing has been flagged as a trojan, but I'm getting a regular flow of spyware.

I'm gonna see if I can sort it, but I'm rather tired after a week of looong days getting my 2D animation Production finished - and I really don't have the patience at the moment...

Also, I'm coming up to my 10,000th page view, I'll do a drawing for whoever catches that view or closest to (I would offer to do more but I'm busy with uni stuff)

on a side not as well I'm currently uploading my current show reel and 2D animation production line test to youtube, so check them out here if you want to [link]

Peace out :peace:

Christmas time, don't let the bells end!

  • Drinking: I'll see what tonight brings
Today's journal title is provided by The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't let the bells end)

At the moment I'm back down south, feeling crime free :), and feeling some Christmas vibes. I got all my shopping done and I'm just waiting on [link] to deliver my order.

Currently I'm working on some scene layouts for my 2D animation production for a 30 second short rooftop chase, I've set it in the future where downloading illegal MP3s is punishable by a savage beating, I might upload them at some point along with some past work from the 1st year that I haven't scanned in yet.

Hopefully I should be getting my new computer on January 9th, so I can finally start churning out work, or more start working on my many projects for uni. I've got a list together of companies to try applying to in London for my placement year (since it would be roughly a 40-50 minuet commute by car and train). Plus my CV has been sent off to a couple of people who should be able to forward my CV on, fingers crossed I'll get some work. Though at the moment I'm having problems with my show reel as the renders I got of my run seem to have come out a bit jerky, so I'm gonna see if I can fix that when I get back to uni. Though I'm gonna re-do my walk cycle from scratch, even though I only need a walk or run, but my run is pretty much done.

At the moment my sleep patter is silly, usual bed time is about 4am, and i get up around 2pm, I need to get into a better working ethic :S

Over the Christmas I'm gonna try and get a few things done:

At least the pencilling of my drawing and composition presentation sheet (a Mayan/Aztec hero saving a baby from sacrifice being sacrificed, with his golem sidekick holding back some cultists)

Design a 'Heath Robinson' style machine [link]

Get the rough animation for my 2D animation production well under way

Treatment for an idea for concept design, about internet dating

    Apply to some companies

At the moment I'm taking it a bit slow, and this journal is a product of procrastination, joy. I'm gonna be buckling down after today, and after going into town to catch up with my mates here in the south. Though I need to make time still to catch up with people like :iconhexit: some more

Merry Christmas, and a happy baby Jesus day

Peace out :peace:
